STOP, Hammertime!

I was right! Guess where we were last weekend? Keystone, of course. And no complaints here. I love it up there. Every weekend this last month has consisted of heading to Keystone and going hiking. But this past Saturday I woke up and just felt awful. Hiking sounded dreadful. I wasn't going to let that stop us from getting out. So instead of a hike we took an afternoon drive.

And since I am anti-fall this year it definitely helped boost my spirits, because it was gorgeous!

But not as gorgeous as this guy. (Wow I am getting cheesier all the time.)

Three Games at Once

Since we don't even have cable and my parents place in the mountains not only has cable but some insane sports package, I have a feeling that this is where (Keystone) and how (football) my husband will be spending his next few Saturdays.

You will be missed.

Not Ready to Let Go

I know that in my last post I said to bring on Fall, but I lied. I don't want it. I'm not ready yet. Which is surprising because I usually love, Love, LOVE Fall! Fall colors are my favorite, plus that means sweater season and I love sweaters! Also it means Halloween is getting closer. Halloween, my third favorite holiday behind Christmas and Valentines day, of course. (It used to be my second favorite, but once Valentines day basically became my anniversary Halloween got bumped down a spot. Wow! I am sounding more and more ridiculous as I write this!)

Anyway, I can't seem to let go of Summer this year. I don't want to let go of my lazy Summer days. I don't want to let go of my sunny walks with my sweaty stroller baby. I don't want to let go of the warm sun on my face as I lay by the pool. I don't want to let go of my cozy afternoons spent on the front porch swing. I want to keep Summer forever.

So this past weekend as I was staring into the inevitability- the changing leaves...

I couldn't help but cling to every last bit of Summer...

and think life is good. And with my boys it will be good no matter what season.

Now let's skip Fall and bring on the Winter. I am getting ski hungry.

Labor Day Weekend

For Labor Day Weekend we got together with my family minus Whitney, Phil, and Kate. (We missed you guys!) We headed up to Keystone, and we had a great time!

We ate...

...at the Taste of Keystone. We had lamb, flank steak, sushi, buffalo tacos, quesadillas, butternut squash, salads, white chocolate spaghetti and dark chocolate meatballs, chocolate covered pretzels and so much more that I can't even remember it all! Delicious!

We browsed...

...through the Breckenridge Art Festival. We came up with many ideas on how to decorate our future, way into the future like hundreds of years into future, cabin in the mountains.

We Hiked...

... the Mesa Cortina trail just West of Keystone overlooking Lake Dillon. This trail was the same trail Aaron helped out for his Eagle Scout project, years ago. We picked an easier hike since we didn't know how long Ethan would last, but we made it about 30 minutes in and 30 minutes back and he did just fine.

Then we did the regulars... We shopped, golfed, took tons of nature walks, and played tons of games!

And although I am clinging to every last bit of summer, Labor Day always reminds me that Fall is just around the corner so I say bring it on, and by that I mean the leaves... not the cold!

Keystone... Our Home Away From Home!

Lately our Saturday consists of me sitting on the couch catching up on my grading while Aaron paces around anxiously waiting for me to finish. Our life is far from lame but has been tamed, just a little, by the start of the school year. We had such a blast this summer but now we are sadly just working for the weekend. Even our blog has felt the effects of this life change.

Well this Saturday since we were in Keystone, I decided to take the day off. I did not grade and I did not plan. And what did we do with this glorious day... absolutely nothing! It was perfect! We became entranced by the television. We are not used to having so many channels to choose from during the week. There was TLC, the History Channel, Discovery Channel, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN ocho! And of course we played our new favorite mountain game... Scrabble! Finally around 5 p.m. we figured that since we were up in the mountains that we should at least head out for a little while to pay our respects to mother nature and breathe in her wonderful mountain air. Yes we were lazy and instead of taking the bikes out for fear that we might have to actually put in some effort to climb hills, we opted for a nice walk around Lake Dillon.

It was beautiful! We even made a stop so that I could take a crash course in skipping rocks. I, sadly, had never learned how. The only unfortunate thing about this outing was the fact that we had to look across the lake at the mountains topped with newly aquired snow. It was such a tease! We are ready for ski season!!!

After that adventure we decided that we should probably eat something besides chocolate, which was the only thing we had consumed that day besides pancakes. We figured we had saved enough energy that day to cook a meal instead taking the easy route of dining out. We headed over to the local City Market and picked up a few steaks, some aspargus and mushrooms. We also picked up some sweet potatoes and yams to try our hand at making homemade chips. It turned out pretty good.

I can't wait for our next Keystone trip.

Mountain Olympics!

So this weekend Aaron and I finally made it up to the mountains. We had been hoping to go camping but with all of this rain we didn't want to take our chances. Instead we headed up to Keystone and stayed at my parents' condo. We started off the weekend by watching the ridiculously amazing opening ceremonies of the Olympics which then inspired us to have our own Olympics.

Here were a few of the events.

First we started off with some cycling.

Next we considered swimming.

After forgoing that event, we headed over to get our BMX on!

Then beach volleyball???

And for the main event... Paddle Boating!!!

This event had three heats. First was the timed individual race. Be warned that fast pedaling can cause rapid tiring of the legs!

Next was Man vs. Animal! They totally schooled us!

Finally was the obstacle course. We had to maneuver between the water fountains without hitting the wildlife.

We ended the day with some Cup Stacking and Phase 10!!!

It was a great weekend! Go USA!!!
